Magdeburg hemispheres

Around the middle of the 18th Century, Otto von Guericke carried out experiments in Magdebourg where he was chief Magistrate, demonstrating the existence of a vacuum and the principle of atmospheric pressure. For this he used 2 hemispheres which are now known by the name of the town. This example was made at the end of the 19th C by Max KOHL, reputed scientific instrument maker.
