Sliding box camera – Désiré LEBRUN – rare
Rare double drawer sliding box wet plate camera giving the option of taking smaller format images. Old walnut with dovetail joints. Fitted with lens signed Désiré Lebrun à Paris. This optician is mentioned in the magazine "La Lumière" from its earliest publication in 1851 and later by "la Société Française de Photographie" (meeting of 15 Feb. 1856) : " M. Désiré Lebrun only exhibited one small camera for photographic miniatures, cdv portraits, jewellery etc. Obviously this renowned optician wanted to prove by comparison with his 10 inch lens that he was as capable in all formats."
