Stereoscopic astronomical photograph, "Eros"
A beautiful astronomical photograph entitled "Eros". At first it seems as though we are looking at a constellation, perhaps "Eros" is its name. However, there is no such constellation. Additionally, the arrangement of the brightest stars is somewhat reminiscent of the Cassiopeia constellation. There is another hypothesis, which is that "Eros" is not a constellation but a near Earth asteroid. It was discovered by the German astronomer Carl Gustav Witt in 1898, but had been photographed prior to that date by the French astronomer Auguste Charlois. With little more to go on, we can fantasize that this stereoscopic view is one of the first records of said asteroid captured by the Frenchman. 70 x 148 mm.
