Chladni’s vibrating plate for Node Patterns
The plate is covered with thin layer of sand and then made to vibrate by stroking a violin bow over its edge. The sand accumulates on the nodal lines, leaving the vibrating part exposed. The patterns created vary with the intensity of the vibration.
France. Circa 1840.
